It is difficult to accurately classify Jesùs Serrato’s work, so vast is the gamut of his expertise. He engraves, he sculpts, he carves, he inlays and he lacquers. Jesùs is limited neither by technical ability, nor by material: he manages to do all this masterfully on steel, pure silver, sterling silver, 24k gold (or any other kind of gold, for that matter!), copper, and virtually any gemstone that you can imagine.

His artistic ability knows no bounds, and over the past ten years he has studied ceaselessly and invested continuously to expand the horizons of his craft so that his hands might keep pace with his imagination

What follows is a brief overview of our process… But before we get there, a little more bit about Jesùs:

About

Born and raised in Mexico, Jesùs Serrato is a Rome-based engraver and master of the applied arts with an innate passion for artistic expression.

He began his career in Mexico working in jewelry before choosing to pursue traditional hand engraving in Italy, where he now resides and refines his technique using specialized precision tools, such as the microscope and pneumatic graver

Alongside engraving, he studies and practices gemstone carving and faceting, creating unique, original, and richly detailed works. With great mastery of manual arts, he enthusiastically takes on even the most complex commissions, transforming every challenge into an extraordinary piece of art.

In addition to his artistic practice, Jesùs teaches engraving at the Accademia delle Arti Orafe, based at the Gerardi Setting School in Rome, an institution of international renown.

“Handicraft is an imperishable value for mankind. In a world where machines replace human work, craftsmanship is the ultimate lifeline for the noble arts that have distinguished humanity.”
