Jesús Serrato

“In a world where machines replace human work, craftsmanship is the ultimate lifeline for the noble arts that have distinguished humanity.”

A native of Monterrey, Mexico, Jesús Serrato grabbed firm hold of that lifeline when he chose to pursue a career as an artisanal goldsmith; more than a job, his craft became a medium for him to celebrate humanity’s boundless creativity.

While training as a goldsmith Jesús discovered burin engraving; what started as an interest soon matured into a passion that inspired him to move to Italy to study with some of the greatest masters of this highly specialized craft. After his apprenticeship in Gardone Valtrompa with the renowned engraver, Simone Fezzardi, Jesús moved to Rome, where the Eternal City’s stratified layers of ancient and contemporary history inspire his work.

Each of Jesús’ creations are brought to the life with the help of a few specialized tools such as a stereoscope, a vise ball and a pneumatic burin.  The most precious tool of all, however, is the Maestro’s exceptional dexterity, which combined with his innate talent and years of experience, lends a truly lifelike quality to every one of his masterpieces.

We have worked with Maestro Serrato to create a few customizable pieces of varying degrees of complexity to convey the gamut of his work from simple monograms, to more ornately embellished works that feature details such as inlaid 24k gold damascening. It is truly impossible to begin to relate the limitless possibilities of this craft, but it is our hope that the examples offered below will inspire you to commission your own bespoke piece of hand engraved art!
